MINISTRY OF PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION PARTICIPATES IN OUTREACH PROGRAMMES Students Urged To Plan For Their Future

The Scholarships and Advanced Training Division of the Ministry of Public Administration (MPA) has teamed up with the Ministry of Tertiary Education and Skills Training and the Ministry of Education to extend its outreach programme to schools throughout Trinidad and Tobago. This enables the MPA to extend its scholarship and advanced training information initiatives to young people in secondary schools and universities.

Speaking about the importance of the outreach programme, Minister of Public Administration, the Honourable Carolyn Seepersad-Bachan said, “These programmes are not just necessary but they are also visionary. We need to ensure that as many of our young people as possible are aware of the opportunities that exist for them to further their education, position themselves to capitalise on future opportunities for skills and competency development and, at the same time, contribute significantly to building our nation in the years to come.”

As part of this initiative, the Ministry participated in the National District Career Fair for the Victoria Education District, which was held at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva from March 10- 14, 2014.

Secondary school students from the surrounding communities attended the Fair and visited the booths of participating agencies including the Scholarships and Advanced Training Division of the MPA, the Accreditation Council of Trinidad and Tobago (ACTT), ROYTEC, Police Service Division and the University of Trinidad and Tobago.

The Ministry also participated in an Advisory Seminar hosted for students in Forms three (3) to six (6) of the Fyzabad Anglican Secondary School, Iere High School (Siparia) and Naparima College, San Fernando. These sessions provided the students with information on available scholarships and areas of study which are deemed critical for our country’s sustainable development.

The sessions advised student of specific scholarships for study in the core medical and allied health areas, as well as other priority areas for which jobs are either available or will be created. Students were encouraged to begin planning for their careers by looking at the fit between their abilities and the development needs of the country. The sessions generated considerable interest from both students and Teachers at the schools.
