The National Museum Service

The Government of Trinidad and Tobago currently operates and is responsible for the National Museum Service, which includes the National Museum and Art Gallery, the Museum of the City of Port-of-Spain , the Museum of the Police Service of Trinidad and Tobago  as well as many other National and Independent Museums and Collections. Incorporated into a system of National Parks are the historical sites at Lopinot, Cleaver Woods in Arima and River Estate in Diego Martin.

The National Museum Service has developed a programme called Museums Assistance Programme (MAP), which provides technical support and a small amount of funding to assist these organizations with the care of their collections. This programme has been developed due to the fact that same of these organizations hold collections of national importance and it is the responsibility of the National Museum and Art Gallery to seek the long term care and preservation of the country’s material culture wherever it may reside.
