CONDOLENCES TO DEBORAH JOHN’S FAMILY
It is with deep sadness the Minister of Public Administration and Communication, the Honourable Maxie Cuffie extends condolences to the family of former Express Publications Editor, Deborah John.
John passed away around 11 pm last night (Wednesday). She was 61-years-old and had been on sick leave undergoing treatment for cancer.
Minister Cuffie said John was not just a former colleague but during the time he worked with her, they developed a friendship that extended beyond the newsroom. He said he was fond of John and was an admirer of her work.
“She was passionate about all forms of local culture, especially the fine arts and her commitment to journalism was manifested in the several terms she devoted to serving in the Media Association of Trinidad and Tobago.”
John was the daughter of the late veteran George John but Minister Cuffie said she never allowed that to influence her interactions nor did she believe it entitled her to special treatment in the profession. She was prepared to earn her way and somehow always maintained a cheerful and helpful disposition, he remembered.
To her family, friends and colleagues in the media, especially the Express family, Minister Cuffie expressed the hope that they find comfort in their time of grief knowing that John touched so many lives but moreso, used her talent crafting and presenting to the world, another perspective.
“For that I’m grateful. Thank you Deborah, you are already missed,” said Minister Cuffie.
