On Tuesday 28th June 2016, the Ministry of Public Administration and Communications in conjunction with the Urban Development Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago (UDeCOTT) officially opened and handed over the Ministry of Education Tower located on St. Vincent Street, Port of Spain. The opening of the Tower ushers a new beginning and a new dawn for the employees of the Ministry of Education.
This modern state-of-the-art tower with a secondary building sits on 272,790 square feet of prime Government real estate in the city of Port of Spain. The tower also boasts of spacious underground parking, impressive conference facilities and a picturesque view overlooking the bustling and re-energized city and beyond. The building does not only stand tall as a symbol of progress but of sustainable development as energy conservation methods will be implemented in its operations.
The Honourable Randall Mitchell, Minister of Housing and Urban Development and line Minister for UDeCOTT, in his welcome remarks, spoke highly of the convenient location and underscored that it will greatly improve the Ministry’s public service delivery. Remarks were also given by the Minister of Education, the Honourable Anthony Garcia and the Minister of Public Administration and Communications, the Honourable Maxie Cuffie. In addressing the audience, Minister Cuffie described the formal opening of the Tower as a “new era… a new paradigm that ends the old concept of the delivery of public services.” Acknowledging that new buildings do not automatically translate into new attitudes and behaviours, Minister Cuffie stated his hopes that the new environment will enable the full potential of the Ministry’s hardworking and loyal employees.
Dr. the Hon. Keith Rowley, Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, delivered the Feature Address and noted that the opening of the Tower is a move away from what was and an achievement of what our twin-island nation can become. He also urged the occupants of the building to manage the infrastructure so that their children and great grandchildren can benefit from the investment made.
The relocation of the Ministry of Education’s employees into the new ultramodern Tower is the realisation of Government’s vision for a customer-centric, modernised and transformed public service. It is a vision realized and the new dawn and a sign of greater transformations in the public service to come.
